LAUREL LIFE SERVICES
Laurel Life Family Centers
The Laurel Life Family Center is based on the ASCA National Model and the Family Center Model. The family center is a school based service and is team delivered. The team generally consistes of a certified school counselor and a Masters level social worker. As a team, they promote family engagement in school and identify, coordinate, and/or provide needed services and support to staff, students and families within the school. Support is provided through a variety of means such as individual counseling, family counseling, classroom guidance, counseling groups, assessment, inservice trainings, referral services, data collection, and other daily responsibilities as needed. Key components of the delivery system include the following:
- Guidance Curriculum - structured developmental lessons connected with academic areas
- Individual Student Planning - work with students and families to help all students develop personal goals and future plans
- Responsive Services - meeting immediate student needs through crisis counseling, referral and follow-up
- System Support - activities targeted at maintaining and enhancing the educational environment and school climate
Ensuring that each family and child receives the most appropriate services to address their individual/family needs is the primary goal of the Family Center team. The identified family and/or child may work directly with the Family Center team to address identified needs or may be linked with appropriate agencies or services to achieve the desired goal. If during the intake and assessment process there are services identified that may be helpful for the child and/or family, then assistance would be provided to facilitate connecting the child and/or family with the appropriate services. Whenever possible, services will be integrated into the school setting as a central location in the lives of children and their families.
