- Provision of collateral therapy to other members in the home when the focus of the therapy session is related to the primary consumer
Target Population:
Brief Treatment is intended for children or adolescents in need of a:
- Step down from more restrictive levels of care, such as inpatient hospitalization, RTF, full BHRS, or FBMH
- Step up in service from outpatient but not in need of full BHRS
- Further assessment by a master’s level clinician in the field
Aftercare
Within one year after Brief Treatment has ended, the model allows for two-week booster sessions as needed for stabilization of the child/family.
Process of Obtaining Services
The authorization process includes three simple steps:
- Evaluation/Assessment
Brief Treatment can be authorized based on an assessment completed by a Master's level clinician. The assessment identifies the referral concerns, a diagnosis, and recommendations. - Interagency Service Planning Team Meeting
The family and treatment team meet to develop the treatment goals and objectives, discuss number of service hours needed, and complete the authorization paperwork. This is the ISPT meeting. - Prescriber Collaboration/Prescription Letter
A psychologist or psychiatrist reviews the assessment and the summary of the team meeting. If in agreement, the Prescriber signs the Collaboration/Prescription letter.
The Brief Treatment clinician is often able to complete this authorization process in as little as 3 days. This simple authorization process allows for a quick response to treatment needs.
Outcomes:
- Reports of consumer satisfaction
- Increase in pro-social behavior and positive self-management skills
- Reduce out-of-home placement
- Increase in skills caregivers can utilize when working with the client
